Having posted our first draft of the trailer, we decided that we would need some audience feedback to help us gauge what would need changing in order to improve the film trailer and gain the best possible grade. We used Survey Monkey, an online survey website that would allow us to send a link out to people of the same demographic as the target audience to receive viable feedback from those who potentially would watch the film. There were 6 questions the we thought were vital in giving us feedback that we could use to alter the trailer in it's second draft, and these include opinions on conforming to the genre, effective sound effects, title opinions, effectiveness of the protagonist, and whether the ending creates enough mystery to fit with the genre. I used my media class as the participants of the survey as they are of the same demographic as the target audience, and so would provide a representative sample for feedback for the trailer.
The results to the first question, which asked if the trailer conformed to the thriller genre, showed that 90% of people felt that there were elements that conformed, but it didn't efficiently follow the genre. Because of these results, we have decided to film a number of extra cutaway shots that will add suspension for the audience, and also allow them to see more of the protagonist, as we feel she is absent from the trailer in some elements
The second question, which asked the participants if they would wan to watch the film having seen the trailer, showed that 20% wouldn't; we think that this is because the trailer isn't fully finished and as the rough draft didn't have any music, it was difficult to be full drawn in by it. There are elements of the trailer that we want to improve upon, and we hope that we can make this number change with our further progress and addition to the trailer.
For the results from this question, we found that 65% of people thought that the sound was effective in conveying the accident scene; with the first draft, we didn't fully sync the sound with the footage that we had, as we found it difficult to get the timings right. It is something that we had planned to work on when we had added music, however due to these results we may research further sound effects that portray the scene that we had planned for.
When asking the participants if they had established a connection with the main protagonist, 20% said that they hadn't. There aren't many shots that show the true emotions that she is feeling, so we are going to re-film some extreme close ups using technical lighting to capture some of the raw emotions that the character is feeling, and hopefully allow the target audience to build a closer rapport with the character.
100% of the participants said that they liked the style of the titles we used in the film trailer; nothing will be altered because of this.
65% of people said that the ending created some form of enigma, but that there wasn't quite enough. As we are following the thriller genre, we also felt that there needed to be more tension and suspense at the end as this would encourage more people to watch the full film. To rectify this, we will film some close ups of the antagonist to disperse near the end of the trailer, to hack the audience and encourage them to find out more.
