Production: genre change

When discussing new ideas for an updated narrative after our unsuccessful attempt at filming the romance narrative that we had, we wanted to continue to use romance as the genre as it has interesting conventions as well as the fact that we had carried out extensive genre research and analysis. However, after we began to film we discovered that we were moving away from the romance genre and filming more of a psychological thriller; as the narrative develops there are very little elements that conform to the genre. In our first trailer attempt, the actors found it very difficult to portray the concept of a romantic relationship and the sensitive aspects of domestic abuse, so when creating the second narrative we deliberately didn't include many romantic elements as we knew it wouldn't be effective on screen. As a result of this, the trailer has moved away from romance; we have accepted this as we feel we will be able to make a more effective trailer using the thriller genre as this was the same as our AS production, which we did well in.

Despite the fact that we are discounting romance as the main genre, we won't be wasting all of the research that we carried out prior to the original production; there are still going to be romantic elements that will determine the sub genre as romance. These elements will include gentle music, the use of high key lighting, emotive shots such as extreme close ups; the romance will be confined to the beginning of the trailer, as the middle and ending is where the psychological thriller conventions will begin to show, and it would be difficult to combine the two without confusing the audience. While we do have prior research on the the thriller genre that we can refer to for the codes and conventions, we will have to look at how the conventions of psychological thriller differ to normal thriller conventions; this will helot ensure that we follow the genre of our narrative closely to avoid a similar situation to last time reoccurring.

These are the links to myAS analysis of multiple thriller film opening analysis, as well as thriller genre conventions, which although don't analyse the same form as this year, they will still provide me with the information I need to know on the codes and conventions.
