In order to achieve the desired effects of having red filter over the top of the original footage, we had to use Premier Pro to alter the colour saturation within the footage. This was different to our original plan, because we wanted to use iMovie, as this was a software that we were both familiar with and felt we would be able to use effectively; however this didn't work as we discovered there was no way of putting a red filter on the clips using this software.
Using Premier Pro, the below picture shows the specific settings we had to replicate in every clip we wanted; while this was time consuming, it ensured that there was a continuity throughout and that the saturation was correct in each.
The colour was changed, and the brightness in some clips were also altered to help give the sinister feeling that we wanted. As shown in the middle image, all of the footage was shot in normal lighting because we had previously attempted to film with a red filter in a photography dark room; this failed as the footage was grainy. By filming in a regular light, the quality was much improved upon which allowed us to add the filter over the good quality footage.
